Thomas Moran (1837-1926)
In 1871 Moran went west with the Hayden Expedition to record the wonders of the Yellowstone area, making annotated drawings and watercolors later used to illustrate articles in the popular press as well as the official report. Martin Johnson Heade (1818-1904)
Among nineteenth-century American painters, Martin Johnson Heade was one of the most inventive, versatile, and prolific -- his active career spanned almost seventy years. Between 1871 and 1902, he painted a series of complex compositions that combine hummingbirds and lush tropical flowers, particularly orchids, in landscape settings he had studied on his travels. There are quite simply no other paintings like those known in America or elsewhere.

Warhol was born in Pittsburgh. He is a founder and major figure of the POP ART movement. Warhol pioneered the development of the process whereby an enlarged photographic image is transferred to a silk screen that is then placed on a canvas and inked from the back. Odilon Redon is a native of Bordeaux. In 1875 he entered the shadowy world of charcoal and the lithographer's stone. The overall effect, imbued with a melancholy passivity, stood outside of trends and movements, as nocturnal, autumnal, and lunar. GALVAN José was born on July 30, 1910 - ASPE (Province of ALICANTE - Spain) died on August 25, 2001 BENIDORM (Spain). To the 19 years age, he lived in ALCOY (Spain) and worked in industrial school where he drew copies. There his Professors noticed his work and directed him to section "drawing according to nature". After the civil war, he followed evening courses in BARCELONA (school REAL CIRCULO ARTISTICO). He painted living models then. He exposed nudes, portraits and landscapes in BARCELONA, PERPIGNAN (1959-1960) and in MONTPELLIER. GALVAN settles in BUTTE MONTMARTRE in PARIS in 1962 and exposed at the Living room of free Art. With the Large Palate, it is present at the exposure of the Spanish painters of PARIS, organized by the Ministries for the Culture of France and Spain. With MONTMARTRE, he takes part in the manifestations of the Town hall of XVIIIe and shows his works in the hall of the Saint-Pierre church. Picasso went through the Blue Period (1901-1904) characterized by a predominantly blue palette and subjects focusing on outcasts, beggars, and prostitutes and the Rose Period (1904-1907) of pinks and beiges, light blues, and roses, with circus people and harlequins as subjects. Then came Cubism, the fragmenting of three-dimensional forms into flat areas of pattern and color, overlapping and intertwining so that shapes and parts of the human anatomy are seen from the front and back at the same time.
Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912)
Born in Dronryp, Holland, Lawrence worked in England until the tragic death of his mistress and muse in 1882. He is interred in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral (London). He painted semi-nudes set against a background of daily life in ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt. His work became enormously popular in the United States, where it did much to forge Hollywood's conception of life in ancient times. His pictures were all numbered with Roman numerals, starting with No I when he was 15, and ending with CCCCVIII.
Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849)
Hokusai was a painter and wood engraver, born in Edo (now Tokyo). He produced illustrations and color prints that drew their inspiration from the traditions, legends, and lives of the Japanese people. The free curved lines characteristic of his style gradually developed into a series of spirals that imparted the utmost freedom and grace to his work. His prints were imported to Paris in the mid-19th century and enthusiastically collected by impressionist artists.

Two of Jesus' disciples were walking to Emmaus after the Crucifixion when the resurrected Jesus himself drew near and went with them, but they did not recognise him. At supper that evening in Emmaus '... he took bread, and blessed it, and brake and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight' (Luke 24: 30-31). Christ is shown at the moment of blessing the bread and revealing his true identity to the two disciples.
